This Customs Alert provides a brief summary of some of the benefits (and pitfalls) of the U.S. Customs’ Advance Binding Ruling.  This valuable program was developed as a means of providing exporters, importers and other parties with a cost effective method for obtaining binding opinions for tariff classifications, country of origin determinations and marking, valuations, admissibility and/or duty preference issues.  In other words you can get a ruling on imported goods before they come into the country.
