Recent Developments in Copyright Law- What's happening right now?
Oct. 28, 2009
We held our first Copyright Program on October 28. More than 150 people from a range of industries attended the event, which was entitled “Recent Developments in Copyright Law.”
Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman attorneys Robert W. Clarida and Thomas Kjellberg explored the most newsworthy and cutting-edge copyright decisions of the past year, including Salinger v. Colting (involving a recent novel based on The Catcher in the Rye), CNN v. CSC Holding (involving digital performances), and fair use rulings involving “The Family Guy” parody of “When you Wish upon a Star,” sculptures depicted on a postage stamp, 1960s monster-magazine art, and the Fairey v. AP case (involving the Obama “Hope” poster). The program was fast-paced, funny, incredibly informative, and packed with audio and video examples.
Attendees also celebrated the publication of Bob Clarida's new one-volume treatise, Copyright Law Deskbook. As a worthy successor to BNA’s The Copyright Law by Alan Latman, Copyright Law Deskbook expertly addresses the law and practice of copyright. It provides a thorough treatment of the relevant law, with a particular emphasis on and analyses of recent case law developments, yet manages to stay pragmatic.
