John has diverse experience in the intellectual property practice both in the U.S. and on an international scale.  His practice is concentrated in the areas of patent, trademark, and unfair competition litigation before federal trial and appellate courts, including bench and jury trials involving several technologies.  His client representations involve famous brands and high-end consumer products, high security smart-cards and RFID devices, shape memory alloys, polymer chemistry, biochemistry, pharmaceuticals, computer software systems, and internet based applications.

In addition to litigation, he has extensive experience in supervising the preparation and prosecution of patent and trademark applications, licensing, due diligence investigations, and opinion work in patent, trademark, trade secret, and unfair competition law.  John has practiced in foreign jurisdictions, particularly before the U.K. Patent Courts where he worked with leading trial advocates in London.  John also has experience in supervising cases before several European courts and has also represented clients in oppositions before the European Patent Office and the Japanese Patent Office.

During and after his undergraduate studies, John worked as a mechanical engineer in product design and development for General Motors Corporation with expertise in materials, science, and automotive engineering.

John has also been instrumental in founding the first American Inn of Court in Manhattan, the New York County Lawyers Inn of Court, (now Denis McInerney/NYCLA American Inn of Court), and the first intellectual property law specialty Inn Chapter in Manhattan, the William C. Conner Inn of Court (formed in 2008).

    • Cases

John has acted as lead or supporting counsel in a variety of patent, trademark and trade secret cases before several U.S. Courts.  He handled the successful enforcement of patent rights through multiple actions in the U.S. and abroad, including a successful jury trial for a major brand of specialty metal eyewear, which has become one of the leading eyewear brands worldwide.  He was also involved in one of the early major generic pharmaceutical cases under the Hatch-Waxman Act and in one of the first jury trials involving biotechnology related patents.
