Honors & Rankings
U.S. News & Best Lawyers have named CLL Nationally in the "Best Law Firms" 2013 List
We continued our National Tier 1 rankings in copyright law, entertainment law-music, information technology law and trademark law. We also were ranked nationally for litigation in the intellectual property, patent and commercial fields.
In the New York City Metropolitan Area rankings, we continued to be Tier 1 for copyright law, entertainment law-music, information technology law, litigation-intellectual property, and trademark law. We also were mentioned for commercial litigation and patent litigation.
We are pleased to announce that Richard Dannay has been selected in the 19th edition of Best Lawyers in America as New York City Copyright Law “Lawyer of the Year.” Best Lawyers® compiles its lists of outstanding attorneys by conducting peer-review surveys in which thousands of leading lawyers evaluate their professional peers. Only one lawyer in each practice area in each community is being honored as the “Lawyer of the Year.” The lawyers being honored for 2013 have received particularly high ratings in surveys by earning a high level of respect among their peers for their abilities, professionalism and integrity.
Richard is a litigator and practitioner in the areas of copyright, publishing and trademark law, as well as libel, privacy, publicity and related matters. See Richard Dannay’s web bio and for a description of some of the notable cases he has handled. Richard has also been named by New York “Super Lawyers” in its “Top 100” attorneys in the New York metro area, annually from 2006 through 2012.
CLL filed the most US trademark oppositions in 2011
We filed over 170 trademark oppositions in 2011 before the Trademark Trial and Appeal Board of the U.S. Patent and Trademark Office.
No other law firm filed anywhere near as many oppositions according to information compiled by Towergate Software. Some of the clients for whom we acted were Major League Baseball Properties and its teams, such as the New York Yankees and the Boston Red Sox, J. Crew, DKNY, Columbia Pictures, The American Museum of Natural History, The Great Atlantic & Pacific Tea Co., C. V. Starr & Co., Varsity Brands, Fusion Brands and The Patina Group, LLC.
TTAB trademark oppositions are like streamlined law suits—with discovery, depositions, trial testimony, briefs and oral argument—but the evidence is submitted on a paper (or electronic) record.
