Real Estate

One of the firm's founders developed a substantial interest in real estate issues early in his career, and continued to concentrate on real estate matters throughout his long and successful tenure at the firm. Under his leadership, the firm has maintained and developed an active real estate practice. While we represent clients in the real estate industry, our real estate practitioners also spend a considerable portion of their time assisting our corporate clients with their real estate matters and meeting the needs of our private clients. We bring the same dedication, knowledge and skills to the acquisition of an 800-square-foot co-op as we do to the acquisition and financing of a multi-tenanted commercial building. In an industry where files and closings are often handled by paralegals and inexperienced associates, often leading to costly problems, we staff our real estate matters with experienced professionals who pay attention to the details that ensure a successful closing. We handle a wide spectrum of real estate transactions:

For real estate professionals:

  • Counsel on acquisitions and dispositions of commercial properties, including tax-deferred like-kind exchanges
  • Make all necessary arrangements and prepare all filings for condominium or cooperative conversions
  • Negotiate leases with prospective tenants.

For our commercial clients:

  • Negotiate and review leases
  • Negotiate construction and secured financings
  • Counsel on sale/leaseback arrangements
  • Negotiate agreements with architects and contractors
  • Negotiate workout arrangements for distressed properties

For individuals:

  • Represent purchasers and sellers of residential properties
  • Handle mortgage refinancings as well as home construction contracts
  • Prepare and review leases and subleases for prospective tenants and occasional landlords
  • Negotiate agreements with architects and contractors
