Diversity and Inclusion
Mission Statement
At Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman, we strongly believe that diversity of lived experiences and inclusion of varied viewpoints at all levels of our firm greatly increases the value and abilities of our lawyers and staff and the services we offer to clients. Our on-going commitment to diversity and inclusion extends beyond our office walls as we are dedicated to improving diversity and inclusion within all facets of the legal profession, and importantly, further into our communities.
Diversity and Inclusion Committee
Our diversity and inclusion initiatives are coordinated and developed by our Diversity and Inclusion Committee comprising partners and associates and focuses on all employees across the firm. The Committee’s overall goals include:
- Preventing discrimination
- Maintaining a supportive and inclusive work environment for all
- Expanding the pool of attorneys and attorney applicants
- Commuting knowledge of the fields of law and intellectual property through programming and outreach
Past and Future Projects
- Organizing CLEs and presentations
- Coordinating and implementing outreach programs to high school, college and law school populations on careers in the law and intellectual property
- Hosting networking and educational events and intellectual property-related workshops
Some Recent Highlights
- Careers in Intellectual Property Law: Promoting Diversity and Inclusion – In June 2021, partnered with Metropolitan Black Bar Association to host discussion led by accomplished practitioners about diversity and inclusion issues and various career paths and opportunities in the world of intellectual property.
- The firm’s Women’s Committee hosted events celebrating International Women’s Day and providing open discussions concerning women in the law.
- Sponsored “The Scales of Justice” held by Equal Justice Works, a virtual nonprofit fundraising event celebrating the community of lawyers who exemplify the values of compassion, dedication, and commitment to achieving our nation’s promise of equal justice for all.
Cowan, Liebowitz & Latman is proud to announce that the firm has achieved Mansfield Certification Plus! Mansfield is a year-long, structured certification process that we have committed to since 2021 to ensure all talent at our firm has a fair and equal opportunity to advance into leadership. This science-backed and data-driven inclusive sourcing process helps boost inclusivity, equal access and transparency in advancement processes and leadership roles at our firm.
