Deborah Squiers, Lynn Fruchter, and Mary Kevlin Selected by Super Lawyers for the 2021 list of NY Metro Area Top Women Attorneys

On March 21, 2021, Super Lawyers named the “Top Women Attorneys” in the New York Metropolitan Area in a supplement distributed by The New York Times.

We are pleased to congratulate our attorneys who are included in the list:  Deborah K. Squiers and Lynn S. Fruchter are listed for Intellectual Property, and Mary L. Kevlin is listed for Intellectual Property Litigation.  Our associate, Emily F. Stein, was also named as a “Rising Star” for Intellectual Property.

 Deborah K. Squiers

Deborah K. Squiers heads our firm’s Trademark Group and has practiced in the field of intellectual property law for over 25 years after having been a legal reporter for a newspaper.  She handles trademark litigation and counseling for clients in the financial, entertainment, sports, beverage, food, and restaurant industries, among others. She represents such notable clients as S&P Global. Debbie chaired and was a featured speaker on TTAB practice at the (PLI) Practicing Law Institute’s annual seminar, “Fundamentals of Trademarks in the Global Marketplace 2020.”  Debbie was selected earlier this year by the International Trademark Association to join the “Women’s LeadershIP Initiative,” a select group of trademark professionals to foster diversity and inclusion in trademark law. 

 Lynn S. Fruchter

Lynn S. Fruchter has practiced in the field of intellectual property for over 40 years and is experienced in trademark licensing and oversees domestic and international trademark protection programs for diverse clients in the entertainment, toy, food, lifestyles, financial services, and cosmetic industries. She has represented such notable clients as Sony Pictures. Lynn chaired the (PLI) Practising Law Institute’s Fundamentals of Trademark Law program for more than 20 years until 2018, when Deborah Squiers began handling it. Lynn also served as a shareholder of our firm and chaired our firm’s Trademark Group.

 Mary L. Kelvin

Mary L. Kelvin has practiced in the field of intellectual property law and handled contested proceedings for over 35 years after clerking for Hon. Dolores Sloviter on the U.S. Court of Appeals for the Third Circuit.  She served on our firm’s Executive Committee for many years and supervises U.S. and international clearance, filing and maintenance programs for a wide variety of clients in diverse industries. One of her most notable clients is Major League Baseball. In addition, Mary is co-author of a well-established and highly regarded casebook Trademark and Unfair Competition Law, and of the “Trial Procedures” chapter in four editions of the ABA’s publication Trademark Trial and Appeal Practices.  She also is the author of the New York State chapter of INTA’s U.S. State Trademark and Unfair Competition Law.  She was an Adjunct Professor at New York University Law School for 19 years and is an active member of the Oratorio Society of New York chorus, with whom she has performed at notable venues, including Carnegie Hall.

Emily F. Stein

Emily F. Stein represents and advises clients on domestic and international trademark, copyright, and licensing issues in a wide variety of industries, including luxury goods, electronics, financial services, professional sports, and food and beverages. Emily has experience with trademark and copyright prosecution, clearance, and maintenance, and with domain name enforcement in the U.S. and abroad. Emily planned and organized our firm’s volunteer initiative with The Bowery Mission through which our attorneys and staff have regularly served meals to New Yorkers in need.
